More iPhone 8 'battery swelling' issues reported, Apple says it is 'looking into' the matter

So, just a little over a weeks ago I made a post about a woman from Taiwan who reported that the battery in her iPhone 8 Plus, which was only three days old at the time, got inflated while charging. The battery swelling literally splits the front of the phone apart from its body.

It appears over the past week there has been over six or more similar cases reported of the iPhone 8's battery swelling. Some of the phones having the battery swelling issue were not even on charge, as some arrived swollen with the front panel protrusion clearly visible and separated from the body of the device.

The first case, as I mentioned above emanated from Taiwan, and since then, there has been cases from Greece, China, Japan (the one reported via Twitter above) and Canada, But so far,  none of the cases reported involves any explosions. Apple has also reacted to the issue with this short statement; “We are aware and looking into it.”

But Apple should take this issue more seriously as it involves the battery. Although, there has been no fire issue reported of any of the units (like in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7), it's still a dangerous thing for new phones to be having their batteries swelling.

“[Swelling is] very unusual for a brand-new battery and leads toward the direction of there's something fundamentally wrong with this battery,” says Sam Jaffe, managing director of Cairn Energy Research Advisors, when contacted by The Verge.

Jaffe, a battery industry analyst, also added that manufacturers have reached a limit with lithium-ion battery capacity and could end up producing designs with a bigger risk of short circuiting in an attempt to store more power.

So far, the numbers are quite minuscule compared to the millions of iPhone 8s that have been shipped. I hope Apple detects this issue ASAP so they won't experience same setback as Samsung.

What are your thoughts on this?
