HMD is really pleasing its customers as regards to OS updates. Just last week, the company revealed that all of its 2017 Nokia android devices, that is the the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8, will receive Android Oreo update before the year runs out.
Now, according to GSMArena, all the Nokia smartphones -which currently run on Android Nougat- will receive updates to, not only Android Oreo, but also Android P (Google's next Android OS to succeed Android 8.0 Oreo).

The Nokia phones will now get two generation of Android OS updates, thanks to the fact that they all run on a near stock Android OS which, in general helps quicken the update development process.
Also, It's a huge upgrade for the Nokia 3, as low-end phones hardly receive Android OS updates more than once so that's a win for you if the Nokia 3 is currently your daily driver and If you plan on using it through 2018.

HMD, according to its Chief Technology Officer is also open to unlocking the bootloaders of their smartphones. By so doing, this will give you access to side-loading third-party OS like LineageOS, thereby keeping your phone secure and up to date even after the official updates stops coming.
