Microsoft's upcoming Windows 10 Lean is targeted at devices with less storage

Windows 10 Lean

Microsoft, according to reports, is presently working on a streamlined version of Window 10, dubbed "Lean", that is designed for devices with less storage space.

Windows 10 Lean edition is part of Microsoft's next Windows 10 version that is codenamed Redstone 5.

Windows Central first reported that the edition will be available for devices with 16GB of storage, and it’s primarily designed to ensure these machines still receive Windows updates. and according to The Verge, the new edition will be offered to OEM's  to load on low-cost laptops and tablets.

A Twitter user, Lucan, revealed that the "Lean"edition is part of the latest publicly released Windows 10 test build (17650), and at the moment the install cuts around 2GB of storage space.

Also, Lucan discovered that over 50,000 files have been cut from Microsoft's Windows 10 Pro and are not part of the "Lean" edition. Some of this files include Internet Explorer and other legacy desktop apps, PowerShell, regedit, mmc, msinfo32.

This is not the final version, but this hefty cuts will certainly make the Windows 10 easier to install and more fluid to use on low storage devives, especially tablets. Microsoft's Build developer conference is set to hold in early May. Hopefully, the company will reveal more about the Windows 10 Lean and Windows 10 in general.
