Globacom partners Huawei to boost data connectivity in Nigeria
Nigerian telecoms giant, Globacom has partnered with Huawei to construct a submarine cable within the country that will boost data connectivity, CNBC Africa reports.
The project, known as 'Glo-2' will provide up to 12 terabytes, and it's projected to be concluded in 18 months. According to Sanjib Roy, Globacom's Technical Regional Director, the project when completed will help provide SME's and ISP's in the South-South region with higher bandwidths at affordable prices to run their businesses, amongts other benefits.
This submarine cable, which will terminate in Southern Nigeria, will ensure the growth of data connectivity to meet up the ever-growing demand from its Nigerian subscribers. Globacom currently has over 34 million users, 25 million of which are internet subscribers.

In 2011, GLO became the first telecommunication company to build an $800 million high-capacity fibre-optic cable known as Glo-1, a submarine cable from the United Kingdom to Nigeria. It is the first successful submarine cable from the United Kingdom to Nigeria.
The company currently offers a wide range of data subscriptions and they, undoubtedly offer the best value for money in terms of data. However, subscribers ‒ myself included ‒ have complained bitterly in the past about how poor their internet quality can be which in turn makes much of the internet data completely useless and redundant before its expiration.
Hopefully with this new partnership, Glo Mobile will become more efficient in their service delivery in terms of data connectivity in Nigeria.
