Apple literally redefined what "smartphone" mean about a decade ago with the launch of the first iPhone. The company first set the pace in the use of touchscreens by ditching the physical keyboard.

To celebrate its milestone, the tech behemoth has released the iPhone X (pronounced ten) with all-screen front, along side the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

Apple has finally come to the conclusion to remove the only hardware button up front on the iPhone and it is now the super sharp all screen that greets you when you hold up the iPhone X.

Another major shift by Apple is to equip the iPhone X with a super AMOLED display, making it the first in any Apple manufactured smartphone. The 5.8-inch big 'Super Retina Display' on the iPhone X has a pixel density of 458ppi. The display packs a resolution of  1,125 x 2,436px, making it the sharpest in any iPhone yet.

The panel offers a whopping million-to-one-contrast ratio, while supporting both HDR10 and Dolby Vision. 3D touch is also present.

The bezels Apple fans are used to is now gone, which means no fingerprint or TouchID support for the iPhone X at all. Instead, you now get FaceID which is enabled by one of the sensors in the odd screen cutout up top. This cutout also houses the selfie camera, earpiece, and several new sensors.

The FaceID is aided by the new 'flood illuminator' (so your face could be captured in the dark) and the new projector that paints 30,000 points on your face.

FaceID is much more secure than the TouchID, which has been reported to have a failure rate of 1,000,000 to 1, although, Apple warned that it will likely be fooled by identical twins. FaceID will also work with Apple Pay and other TouchID supported apps.

With the all-screen comes new swipe gestures on the iPhone X. You now swipe up to unlock when the screen is on. 'Swipe up and hold' brings up multitasking and to go back to the home screen  from an app, you swipe up to "throw" the app. The Control Center has been moved to the top as well. There might be a bit of a learning curve here but with time, you should get used to the swipe gestures.

Talking of processing power, the iPhone X runs on the Apple A11 chipset - with two powerful cores to handle demanding tasks and four energy-efficient cores for menial tasks.

The iPhone X comes with new, improved 12-megapixel dual camera on the back which is the first camera on a mobile phone to shoot 4K 2160p video at 60fps. The frame rate for 1080p video recording has also been bolstered to an highest speed of 240fps. The telephoto lens has a brighter aperture of (f/2.4) while the regular lens remains at f/1.8. Both cameras are optically stabilized, and the quad-LED flash now supports slow sync.

The battery on the iPhone X, according to Apple will last 2 hours more than the iPhone 7 battery. With the right charging brick, the iPhone X can gain 50% of juice in just 30 mins, thanks to fast charging. Wireless charging (with Qi standard) also comes to an iPhone, for the first time, with the iPhone X, and it does so in style with the new AirPower.

This is Apple's new wireless charging pad that can charge the iPhone X, Apple Watch and AirPod case simultaneously.  And the cool thing about this is that all charging power for the three devices appear on the iPhone X screen.

Other cool features shipping with the iPhone X is the new animojis (animated emojis) which is possible with the detailed scan of your face. The emojis come to life as it mimicks your facial expressions which you can later send to friends via iMessage.

In Nigeria, that is about 360,000 naira. The iPhone X will also be available in 128 GB and 256 GB models.
