Nokia 3.1 is an entry-level to mid-range smartphone that serves as a nice blend between the low-end Nokia 2.1 and the mid-range Nokia 5.1. The device, compared to Nokia 3 from last year comes with an upgrade in almost every area. Nokia 3.1 features a HD+ display, an octa-core processor, a 13-megapixel camera and Android Oreo, among other cool features. Read on to find out more about the Nokia 3.1.

Design and Display

Like Nokia 2.1, the Nokia 3.1 boasts of a sturdy build as it is packed in a body made of an aluminum frame with a 2.5D glass front and a plastic back cover. Around the edges are slight curves, while the sides are also slightly rounded into the back to allow for a comfortable grip. The sides of the device are lined with either Copper, Chrome or Iron accents depending on which colour tickles your fancy. Speaking of colours, Nokia 3.1 comes in Blue/Copper, White/Iron and Black/Chrome.  

The Nokia 3.1 packs a punch in the display department. The device is rocking a HD+ screen with 720 x 1440 pixel resolution that measures 5.2-inches diagonally. The display is protected by a Corning Gorilla glass and it features an 18:9 aspect ratio giving you more screen real estate and providing that immersive viewing experience. With 310 ppi, text and multimedia contents should appear sharp, vibrant and colourful.

Camera, Hardware and Software

You are getting a 13-megapixel rear camera on the Nokia 3.1 with an f/2.0 aperture that should help bring in more light while shooting photos and videos. An LED flash is also available for low-light shots while the sensor can also shoot videos of 720p at 30 frames-per-second. Upfront on the Nokia 3.1 is an 8-megapixel camera also with an f/2.0 aperture for your selfies.

The Nokia 3.1 is powered by an octa-core Mediatek processor, with four cores running at 1.5 GHz for graphics-intensive works while the remaining four are clocked at 1.0 GHz for lighter task. The Mali-T680MP2 GPU, paired with 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM should handle gaming and other graphics-intensive processes quite nicely. Nokia 3.1 comes with either 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage and both options boots on Android 8.1 Oreo (Android One) and may likely receive an update to Android P soon.

Battery and Other Features

In terms of power, the Nokia 3.1 depends on a 2,990 mAh battery to keep the lights on with no fast charging option. Also, HMD decided not to include a fingerprint scanner on the Nokia 3.1 which is a bit surprising but this shouldn't be much of an issue for most buyers out there.

The Nokia 3.1 in terms of connectivity features numerous options, some of which are dual SIM (Hybrid slot), 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, A-GPS, NFC, Headphone jack, Wi-Fi and more.

In Nigeria, the Nokia 3.1 will support LTE on all major networks including MTN, 9mobile, NTel, Globacom, Airtel, InterC, and Smile.

Price and Availability

The Nokia 3.1 is not yet available in Nigeria and Kenya but it's expected to hit major stores soon. The price of Nokia 3.1 in Nigeria should range between 58,000 naira to 65,000 naira ($160 to $180) while In Kenya, prices should range between Ksh 19,999 to Ksh 23,999.
