Why the name 'Oreo'

According to Android's director of project management, Sagar Kamdar, 'Oreo' became the chosen name for the new mobile OS because the engineers behind it happened to be eating a ton of the famed cookies. *lol*

He said "At our microkitchens at Google, we have Oreos all around. Our engineers just kept eating Oreos with their glasses of milk."

Google's previous Android OS such as KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow and Nougat have been named after a sweet or candy in an alphabetical order, therefore, it was quite evident that Google's new OS, i.e Android Oreo, will follow such trend. This time though, it's a cookie!

Also on the name, Google partnered with Nabisco to get the liscense for the 'Oreo' name, like they did with KitKat for Android KitKat, which means you should be getting Oreo's with Android branding in stores soon.

Well, there you have it. Android OS has seen a lot of key improvements in the past few years and this newer version (Android Oreo) will only add to what is already a really good experience.

Android currently runs on over 2 billion gadgets worldwide which includes smartphones, smartwatches, cars and TVs.

I will be sure to keep you updated on stories regarding Android Oreo so stay tuned. Wondering whether you might get the update? You can check out this article to see the list of smartphones to get Android Oreo update.
