Whatsapp Status or Stories has over the past few months recorded a significant growth in the number of daily active users.
The photo sharing section of Whatsapp, which was copied from Snapchat stories, now has over 250 million daily users from 175 million back in February 2017, while Snapchat has around 166 million users daily of its entire app.
This disclosure was made by Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, during Facebook's earnings call for the second quarter of 2017.
Whatsapp all together (Including Stories, voice and audio calls, and text messaging) now has a total of 1.3 billion monthly users and 1 billion total daily users. Over 55 billion messages are sent and received per day, including 4.5 billion photos and 1 billion videos.
Mark Zuckerberg also stated that Facebook and WhatsApp are now building out teams to monetize their messaging apps. WhatsApp Status could be a natural home for vertical video ads just like the ones thriving on Instagram.
It is worthy to note that WhatsApp was acquired for $19 billion by Facebook back in February 2014 when it had 450 million monthly users and 350 million daily users.
