VidCon is a convention where fans can meet their favourite YouTube stars, first hand, and YouTubers can check out latest tools and inspiration for making videos.
YouTube’s CEO Susan Wojcicki made it known on stage, while also adding some metrics about the ongoing success and growth of YouTube.
These numbers are staggering, considering that it is just the number of logged-in monthly users, without including people that are not logged into the video sharing and streaming service yet, which could have surged the numbers even higher.
In addition, the company has also revealed an upcoming update for YouTube mobile apps (PC not included) that will allow you fill the screen with any clip, no matter the format.
This means that videos uploaded, whether vertically, horizontally, or in square shape format, can be viewed without those annoying black bars we are used to to seeing. Also, YouTube on Desktop receive a new look that will include a dark theme and other extra features.
Each video that is shared can also be discussed in its own chat with those contacts, who can respond with texts, videos, and “hearts”. The update will first hit Latin America in a couple of weeks, followed by a rollout in the U.S. and subsequently, in other markets.
TV, the company said, is the fastest growing medium on the platform. Another statistics says people watch videos at an average of one hour per day on a mobile device, which is a crazy amount of accumulated time if yo think of the overall picture.
