How to prevent your Android smartphone from overheating

With manufacturers increasingly adding processing power and packing large batteries into smartphones, with fast-charging technology, users are often faced with situations where by their smartphones overheat during certain tasks.

This may be during charging, gaming or using power-hungry apps. Though, overheating, in most cases is a hardware issue.

Here are a few tips you can follow to ensure your smartphone doesn't overheat
  • REMOVE CASE
Most users, as I have discovered tend to have a cover case on their smartphones for protection against impact. But what you don't know is that these cases tend to trap the heat emitted from your device making it overheat. So removing the cover case will help reduce overheating to some extent.
  • KILL SOME BACKGROUND RUNNING APPS
Unlike iOS, Android tends to have a lot of background running apps which drain on the phones processing power which in turn causes the phone to overheat. So, next time your phone is overheating, you might want to check in the background to see what apps are churning on your phone's processing power.
  • STOP CHARGING OVERNIGHT
Many of us leave our smartphones to charge overnight. Plugging your phone in overnight not only affects the efficiency of your battery overtime, but also heats up the device. There have been cases of smartphone batteries exploding due to overcharging, but I'm sure we wouldn't want that to happen.
  • PLACE YOUR DEVICE ON A HARD SURFACE WHILE CHARGING
Hard surfaces, like a table or glass, do not absorb heat compared to a bed or cushion. Placing the phone on a bed will only allow the emitted heat from the device, while charging, to be trapped in it thereby causing your phone to overheat. So when next you want to charge your device, place it on a hard surface. This also applies to Laptops.
  • AVOID USING THIRD PARTY BATTERIES OR CHARGERS
Some third-party batteries and chargers can actually cause overheating of your smartphone. This is due to different wattage on the chargers and batteries. So, avoid using them. You should try to purchase these accessories from trusted retailers or online stores.
  • AVOID DIRECT SUNLIGHT
You can also prevent your smartphone from overheating by not placing your devices under direct sunlight, especially if it sports a plastic back panel. The heat from the sunlight coupled with the processing power running in the background is bound to heat-up your device.
