If you don't see an upgrade of the current PlayStation 4 to PS5 or whatever it might eventually be called, don't be too surprised as Sony reportedly has plans to stop manufacturing consumer electronics and gadgets, which induces your favourite Sony mobile phones, Playstation lineup, Sony cameras, amongst others.

This is because of a change in management. Sony replaced its long-term CEO, Kaz Hirai recently, with a new one who plans to strip down all Sony is known for -making consumer gadgets- and make them a more service-oriented company. The new Sony chief executive Kenichiro Yoshida unveiled a new three-year plan for the company last week Tuesday and the focus of that plan was on services and other core areas of Sony profitability which sadly, had no mention of consumer gadgets, let alone phones.

While these are mostly just speculations for now, it still makes sense for the company to "focus" on services from a profit standpoint, as it makes tons of billions from selling its manufactured camera sensors for the camera and cameraphone to other companies in the industry.

In comparison to its mobile phone business, Sony sold around 10 million phones in 2018, down from 22.5 million in the past year, as it is finding it hard to make reasonable sales outside of Asia. And with the popular PlayStation 4, sales have gone down 18% in the most recent quarter and executives admit that the PS4 is approaching the end of its lifecycle, although, the company still generates huge revenues from the PS4 through online gaming, streaming and so on. The future of these gadgets, especially the smartphones, is bleak. We only hope Sony will still hold on a little while longer.

Do you think Sony should still keep making gadgets or just scrap the whole project? Let us know in the comments!
