HTC to launch a blockchain-powered smartphone for crypto traders

HTC looks to be the first major smartphone maker to take over the mantle of manufacturing a blockchain-powered smartphone from Sirin Labs, specifically built for the crypto community.

HTC Exodus is an Android powered blockchain device HTC is working on that will allow cryptocurrency traders carry out secure digital transactions. Blockchain is a peer-to-peer network used to store financial transactions. With blockchain, each transaction gets a new block which is sent out to members of the network. Once these members approve it, the new transaction is added to the "chain" of previous transactions.

Like the Finney, the HTC Exodus will feature a cold storage wallet that allows users to store their cryptocurrencies without connecting to the internet, which keeps Bitcoins and other digital currencies safe from prying eyes and grabbing hands.

“Through Exodus, we are excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more,” said Phil Chen, formerly the creator of the HTC Vive VR headset and now responsible for all blockchain and cryptocurrency related initiatives of HTC including Exodus. “We would like to support the entire blockchain ecosystem, and in the next few months we’ll be announcing many more exciting partnerships together.”

HTC is considering accepting cryptocurrency as a form of payment for the phone, although its price is yet to be decided. Also, no words on the specs and release date yet so we've to wait and see what the company has in store.

Meanwhile the Finney smartphone from Sirin Labs will carry a 6-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and a 1080 x 2160 FHD+ resolution. Octa-core Snapdragon 845, Adreno 630 GPU with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage is what is in the internals.. On back is a 12MP camera with an aperture of f/1.8, and an 8MP selfie shooter upfront.

An "ultra-secure" fingerprint sensor is on-board, and the device supports Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. Keeping the lights on is a rather light 3,000 mAh battery that charges to 50% in 30 minutes, and Android 8.1 is pre-installed.The back of the device features Gorilla Glass and it's IP52 certified. The device is set to launch in October.
