The term 'Gaming smartphones' is becoming increasingly popular in the mobile phone space, surprisingly, and as the market continues to grow, more smartphone manufacturers are getting themselves involved because... well, why not?!
Asus, reportedly, will be the next in line to take up the mantra from the likes of Razer, Xiaomi, and ZTE whom all have their unique smartphones. The company via its Republic of Gamers platform is working on a gaming smartphone which will instantly take on the ones on the market, most especially the Razer Phone.
The device will reportedly be powered by the latest and efficient Snapdragon 845 SoC, and will be counting on an 8GB RAM to back it up. Although no information on what the internal storage will be, it is expected that Asus will go with either a 64GB or 128GB option. The ROG-branded device is to come with a display that boasts of 120GHz screen refresh rate, which is the type we saw on the Razer Phone. The refresh rate, as understood will operate on 60GHz by default, when not in gaming mode to improve efficiency. While there is no detail on the design, the device will boot on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.
Asus Republic of Gamers brand, like Razer already has a strong reputation in the PC gaming community so diving into the gaming smartphone market makes sense and will give it a significant advantage over Xiaomi and ZTE.
The unveiling of the ROG-branded smartphone by Asus will reportedly take place during the Computex 2018 event in Taiwan (June 5 - 9). This is still just a rumor until their is more clarity on the the news, so don't get your hopes up just yet.
What do you think of this move by Asus? is there a future for gaming smartphones? Let's know in the comments.
