You can now disable Samsung's Bixby with new update

Samsung Bixby updates allows you disable the feature

Samsung first introduced Bixby with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus with the hope to rival other digital assistant like the Google assistant and Apple's Siri. The assistant was even given a dedicated Bixby button just below the volume button, for easy accessibility.

But all of that was not enough for Bixby to be entirely acceptable by users. Most users found a way to remap the Bixby button at first, to launch other apps, but Samsung got rid of that support with a patch.

So, the South-Korean tech giant have now  decided to roll out an update that will allow you disable Bixby if you don't find it that much appealing. The new update sees the addition of a toggle switch, that allows you disable or enable Bixby.

Meanwhile, the dedicated Bixby button will do nothing when pressed, after you have disabled the feature, And you still can't remap the Bixby button to another app which is not cool as the button just becomes redundant when disabled. You should be able to use the toggle feature as soon as you update to the latest version.

However, Bixby home, the news and event aggregate, still exists and can be accessed by swiping from the left side of the home screen. This new update is definitely a nice touch and will prevent accidental triggers when the device is in your pocket (something most users expressed great dissatisfaction about).

But the remapping of the Bixby button to do something else of you choice, instead of just being redundant would have been the crowning glory for Samsung as it will provide more functionality for the Galaxy S8, and S8 Plus users. Hopefully, this will be implemented in an upcoming update, perhsps.

The update, which is still rolling out, according to reports, will be over-the-air and will take a while to reach every user. If you are yet to receive the update, just be patient and check from time to time to see when it arrives for installation.
