Instagram Copies Snapchat 'Again' in New Update

Ooops!... The feud between Snapchat and Instagram is about to get messier!

The update comes with a new feature, that Instagram is calling 'Face Filters'. These are Snapchat-like filters we are used to, except this time around, it is on Instagram.

The Face Filters feature debuts with 8 filters, but the company said more filters will follow with subsequent updates. The filters can be accessed by tapping on the camera button and then the face icon in the bottom right corner.

It features styles like various crowns, animals like koala, rabbit and a spinning math equation. Even the magic beautifying/contour filter that Snapchat fans cherish so much has been dubbed by Instagram.

Also, the ‘Rewind’ feature that was in Snapchat which makes videos play in reverse, has been added.

The only ‘non-Snapchat’ features added to the filters are a new hashtag sticker and an eraser tool. You can edit the hashtag sticker or add hashtags using regular text. People watching your story will be able to tap the hashtag sticker or text to visit the hashtag page and explore related posts.

When using the drawing tool, you’ll see a new eraser brush.  You can erase other things you’ve drawn and play around with removing colour. After taking a photo or video, you can select a drawing tool and tap and hold to fill the entire screen with color. Then, using the eraser brush, you can creatively reveal parts of your photo or video underneath.

Snapchat witnessed a serious decline in earnings from Q1 of 2017 due to a drop in the number of users globally and experts have predicted the company might not survive 2017.

The update is now available in the 'Apple Store' and 'Google Play Store'
