YouTube doesn't normally receive updates but when it does, it seems to always be significant. Google has added a new 'breaking news' section to YouTube that will show as thumbnails containing videos of recent happenings.

This new section, just like the 'recommended' channel on YouTube greets you when you open the Homepage and serves as a source for breaking news around the world. On the mobile app, this sections appears as a scrollable carousel in-between suggested videos. According to AndroidPolice, the breaking news section is currently filled with videos about the Barcelona terror attack.
It is not clear, for now if this will work according to your country of residence or region. Also, it’s unclear whether Google is populating this section algorithmically or curating content by hand, or whether or not it’ll even appear at all times or just during breaking news cycles. But this seems to be a great addition to YouTube and a quick source for getting to know what is happening around you.
The 'breaking news' section is available for both YouTube web and Mobile app.
