Yahoo Messenger will be dead by July

Yahoo Messenger will be dead by July

If you are still an ardent user of Yahoo Messenger, then I have some bad news for you. The Messenger service, according to the company, will be shut down by July 17, 2018. This means that you can continue using Yahoo Messenger from now up until July 17, before saying your final goodbye.

Yahoo's reason for closing the Messenger service is a bit ambiguous, but the company at least offers a short statement that soughts of motivates the closing of the communication service.
We know we have many loyal fans who have used Yahoo Messenger since its beginning as one of the first chat apps of its kind. As the communications landscape continues to change over, we're focusing on building and introducing new, exciting communications tools that better fit consumer needs.

For loyalist that wish to remain in the Yahoo ecosystem, the company recommends to join Yahoo Squirrel, an invite-only group messaging app.

Meanwhile, aside the fact that Yahoo Messenger is closing, you can download your chat history to your personal computer or device for the next 6 months. Also, your Yahoo ID will continue to work for other Yahoo services like Mail and Fantasy.

Do you still use Yahoo Messenger and what do you think of this decision by Yahoo? Please leave a comment below!
