Ever since the release of the Huawei P20 series of smartphones by the Chinese manufacturers, Huawei, there is one among the bunch that was predestined to standout ‒ the Huawei P20 Pro!

The 'P20 Pro instantly caught users attention at launch due its pace-setting Leica triple camera setup. The popularity even grew stronger when DxOMark gave the camera it's highest ever score of 109, dethroning the likes of Samsung Galaxy S9+ (99) and Google Pixel 2 (98) in the process. Now, the Huawei P20 Pro has received another recognition, this time from a non-profit organisation called TIPA, which further cements its place as number one in smartphone photgraphy. The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) awards the Huawei P20 Pro the "Best Photo Smartphone" of 2018.

TIPA is a non-profit organisation which co-ordinates with more than 30 member publications in the image and video section to come up with the best image capturing metrics.

So, you may be asking, why all the hype?! Well, this is why. The P20 Pro sports the world’s first triple (Leica) lens and sports the highest pixel count available in a smartphone.

A 40MP sensor captures light from an f/1.8 35mm equivalent lens; the secondary camera has a 20MP monochrome sensor; while the third sensor is 8MP, which captures images with an optically stabilized 3X telephoto zoom.

The P20 Pro can capture images in near-dark conditions without the aid of flash or tripod with a incredible ISO of 102,4000. A Master AI system has over 500 scene recognition algorithms plus there’s an Ultra Snapshot feature that allows capture in as fast as 0.3 seconds even when the screen is off.

The floor is now open for other smartphone makers to try and out do Huawei and come up with cameras that are even better.

What do you think about this award? is it still too early in the year to conclude? Leave a comment below.
